Bậc đại học tại Mỹ đào tạo đa nghề và đào tạo các chương trình:

  • Cử nhân                        : 04 năm;
  • Thạc sỹ                          : 02 năm;
  • Tiến sỹ                           : >=3 năm.

Các loại trường đại học tại Mỹ

  • Các trường đại học công lập. Các trường đại học công lập của tiểu bang do chính quyền tiểu bang quản lý, tài trợ về tài chính và được đánh giá – kiểm tra chất lượng bởi hiệp hội các trường đại học – cao đẳng trong khu vực. Mỗi tiểu bang thường có ít nhất là một trường đại học lớn (State university) và các trường đại học cỡ nhỏ (State college).
  • Các trường đại học tư thục. Thường do cá nhân và tổ chức riêng thành lập và điều hành, và cũng được kiểm tra chất lượng bởi hiệp hội các trường đại học – cao đẳng trong khu vực. Học phí các trường đại học tư thường cao hơn trường đại học công lập và đa số các trường có quy mô nhỏ hơn các trường công về khuôn viên lẫn quy mô đào tạo.
  • Trường đại học liên kết với các tổ chức tôn giáo. Nhiều đại học Hoa Kỳ do các tổ chức tôn giáo thành lập. Tuy thế, mối liên hệ giữa trường đại học và tổ chức tôn giáo có thể rất linh động hoặc thậm chí lỏng lẻo và đào tạo không chỉ sinh viên theo 1 tôn giáo cụ thể mà là từ tất cả các tôn giáo, quốc gia, dân tộc….
  • Các trường đại học kỹ thuật/ học viện kỹ thuật (“Institute of technology” hay “technical institute”): là một loại trường đào tạo các chương trình có độ dài ít nhất là 4 năm về khoa học và công nghệ và cấp bằng cử nhân. Đặc điểm chung của chương trình đào tạo tại đây là mang tính thực hành cao, vì vậy, sinh viên tốt nghiệp có được các kỹ năng cần có cho thị trường lao động.

Du học Mỹ

Yêu cầu đầu vào Đại học

Yêu cầu đầu vào chi tiết của mỗi trường có thể khác nhau, nhưng yêu cầu chung là:

  • Học lực: khá giỏi trở lên- tùy ngành và tùy trường;
  • Tiếng Anh: 60- 64 PTE A hoặc 89- 95 TOEFL;
  • Kinh nghiệm làm việc nếu học một số ngành thuộc bậc học thạc sỹ, tiến sỹ.

Học phí. Học phí các trường thường từ 18,000- 35,000 USD/ năm tùy trường. Một số ngành học phí khá cao, ví dụ Y: 47,000- 67,000 USD/ năm. Học phí các trường tư đắt hơn, khoảng 20,000- 50,000 USD/ năm.

Ăn ở: sinh viên có thể ở homestay, KTX hoặc chung với sinh viên khác. Mức phí từ 6,000- 12,000- 15,000 USD/ năm. Học sinh dưới 18 tuổi bắt buộc ở homestay hoặc KTX hoặc nhà người thân được trường cho phép.

Khai giảng. Các kì học chính, kì 1 khai giảng vào tháng 8 và kì 2 khai giảng tháng 1 hàng năm. Hầu hết các trường có hạn chót nhận hồ sơ xin học 5-6 tháng so với ngày khai giảng.
